Cupping and the acupuncture meridians! You’ve probably seen those round marks on people’s backs—often athletes or celebrities sport them. You might think this unusual practice isn’t for you, but you’d be surprised!
Cupping isn’t just a Chinese tradition; it has deep roots in European culture too. While it may have fallen out of common use in the UK, many older generations across the world are familiar with it. One modern author recalls his grandmother in Turkey using cupping to stop a cold in its tracks!
Cupping is often used for coughs, colds, and many types of breathing difficulties. While it might not be a cure, it can bring significant relief from discomfort—sometimes even preventing a cold from taking hold if used early enough.
Cupping Benefits
But cupping’s benefits go beyond just respiratory issues. It’s frequently used to alleviate aching joints, sore backs, and stiff muscles. While it may not offer a complete cure, it can certainly help reduce pain and improve mobility, making it well worth trying.
Although cupping is taught in acupuncture colleges, it’s traditionally a home remedy that anyone can learn. And we’ll show you how! (By the way, children often love it, and usually benefit quickly from it.)
In this session on cupping and the acupuncture meridians, you’ll not only learn the basics of cupping, but also some key acupuncture points to enhance its effectiveness. You’ll discover how illnesses and ailments can penetrate deeper into the body and how cupping helps to draw them out.
The morning session on Cupping and the Acupuncture Meridians
The first part of the session will cover acupuncture meridians (channels) and where they go.
The second part will be a hands-on introduction to cupping.
We’ll show you
- different methods of cupping
- the various types of cups you can use
- what’s safe, and important precautions to take.
- There are, of course, certain situations where cupping should be avoided — we’ll make sure you know when not to use it!
By the end of the session on cupping and the acupuncture meridians, you’ll not only understand how to perform cupping safely but also how to access further information and resources, including where to get the cups.
Of course, we’ll provide cups for you to practise with during the workshop.
